UI/UX Designer
Somewhere
Job Description
UI / UX Designer
Location: Remote
Time Zone Requirement: GMT Β±3β4 hours (Eastern Europe, South Africa preferred)
Type: Full-Time
Level: MidβSenior (flexible based on experience)
About the Role
We are hiring its first in-house UI / UX Designer to take full ownership of product design across the platform.
Today, design work is handled externally, which has created friction, misalignment, and slower execution. This role is a critical hire that will bring design fully in-house β enabling tighter collaboration, faster iteration, and a more cohesive product experience.
You will work closely with the Chief Product Officer and engineering team to design products from 0-to-1, helping define how it looks, feels, and functions as it continues to scale.
This is a high-impact role with real ownership β not a pixel-pushing position, but a chance to shape the foundation of a growing product.
Design Vision
Weβre looking for a designer who can execute a clean, modern, YC-style aesthetic:
- Simple
- Minimal
- Functional
- Polished
The goal is to move away from generic or βtemplate-drivenβ design and build a product experience that feels modern, intentional, and intuitive from day one.
What Youβll Do
- Own the end-to-end UI/UX design function as our first internal designer
- Design core product experiences for 0-to-1 builds
- Translate product requirements into intuitive user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity designs
- Collaborate closely with the CPO and engineers in real time
- Improve usability, clarity, and consistency across the platform
- Create and maintain design systems and reusable components
- Proactively communicate design decisions, tradeoffs, and timelines
- Iterate quickly based on feedback and product priorities
What Weβre Looking For
Must-Haves
- 3β7+ years of experience in UI/UX or product design
- Experience designing SaaS or web-based products
- Strong portfolio showcasing clean, modern product work
- Proven ability to design products from scratch (0-to-1)
- Excellent communication skills β this is non-negotiable
- Ability to work collaboratively in real time with product and engineering
- Availability within GMT Β±3β4 hours for overlap
Nice-to-Haves
- Startup or early-stage product experience
- Experience working closely with product leaders and engineers
- Familiarity with modern design systems and component-based workflows
- Experience shaping brand or visual identity at an early stage
Tools & Workflow
Youβll likely work with tools such as:
- Figma (primary)
- Product collaboration tools (Notion, Linear, Jira, etc.)
- Direct collaboration with engineering and product leadership
Exact tooling may evolve as the team grows.
Why This Role Is Exciting
- Be the first in-house designer β real ownership from day one
- Work directly with the CPO and influence product direction
- Design real products, not marketing pages
- Help define the visual identity and UX foundation of the company
- Opportunity to grow into a lead design role as the team scales
